It amazes me that we're still asleep on the conflict of interest structurally inherent in the FDA addressed by Marion Nestle. One nonprofit that recognizes this and is working to provide scientific nutrition to consumers with the appeal (taste first!) to change behaviors: www.oldwayspt.org. I worked with them a few years back to bring together nutrition scientists, food writers, chefs, food industry and public health institutions to craft just those messges.

Hello Mike:

I would like to add, the tremendous growth in the Fast food industry (i.e. Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Subway, etc) I believe contributes to “obesity.” Two main points I see are: 1) low paid wages at fast food retail/restaurants engage lower overhead costs that leads to franchise expansions and 2) plain Laziness, not preparing/cooking meals at home, going out instead hence, empowers the high demand for “agricultural subsidies.”

Thank you,
~Paul Michael
